11th Annual Lunch Money Day a Huge Success!
ON FEBRUARY 26, 2009, Torontonians rallied to help fight hunger by bringing their lunch to work or school and donating the money they would normally spend on lunch to Second Harvest.
Collections continue to roll in, proving that Lunch Money Day 2009 is going to be a big winner... we are well on our way to reaching our fundraising target of $410,000, which we will turn into 820,000 meals for those who are hungry in our community.
Here's how we did it:
- 263 companies and schools ran LMD campaigns
- we collected nearly $40,000 at TTC subway stations - a record for both the subway (17 stations) and number of volunteers (285)
- we opened the TSX on February 26th - a Second Harvest first!
- TD Bank Financial Group ran the largest LMD campaign to date, raising over $50,000
- in addition to its large corporate donation, ING DIRECT supplied nearly 30 volunteers to collect money in the Yonge/Bloor subway station
- our raffle was a huge hit, bringing in over $35,000
- 1,037 Sobeys customers made $2 Lunch Money Day donations at the checkout
- Starbucks directed a portion of the proceeds from Turkey Sandwiches and Orzo Salads sold on Lunch Money Day
- Calphalon Centre's 3rd annual Vegetarian Pasta lunch sold out, raising $1,106
- Second City Toronto donated $5 from each ticket sold on Lunch Money Day; cast members also volunteered at two collection sites
Thank you, Toronto, for sharing our vision that no one need ever go hungry in the communities we serve.
